Wolf Control Programs Poor Policy
but Likely Under New Board of Game

Letters to the Editor / Anchorage Daily News / February 5, 2003

With the extremist hunters now appointed to the Board of Game by Gov. Murkowski, we are likely to have highly controversial wolf-control programs in places like McGrath and Glennallen as soon as March.

We've been down this road before and paid the price with a tourist boycott. For a governor anxious to protect state revenues, appointing radical board members bent on wolf-control seems like a poor strategy. Murkowski will have to learn the hard way that most people despise wolf control programs and will not hesitate to hurt us economically if the game board is irresponsible.
