I am saddened, and sickened, by the number of moose calves being killed and eaten by bears, and it seems to get worse each year. The bears have no predators except humans, while the moose have to contend with the bears, the wolves and humans.
I am a born and raised Alaskan. I know that Mother Nature is how Mother Nature is: wild. I can't help but think, though, that it's time for a major bear hunt. Otherwise, the moose don't have much of a chance. And even if I do have to chase them away from the apple trees in the yard, I still am grateful to have them in my experience. I'd miss them if they weren't around.
I don't, however, feel the same about the bears. There's plenty of them in this state!
