Governor Appoints Native to Board of Game

Channel 2 News Staff / KTUU-TV / February 8, 2008

JUNEAU, Alaska -- Gov. Sarah Palin today announced that she has appointed a Fort Yukon man to serve on the state Board of Game.

Craig Fleener is a lifelong Alaskan, according to a press release from the governor, and has worked in various positions directing natural resources and environmental projects.

The Palin administration also reports Fleener served as executive director of the Council of Athabascan Tribal Governments, along with prior appointments on the Alaska Native Health Board and Eastern Interior Subsistence Federal Regional Advisory Committee.

Fleener's appointment comes after Teresa Sager-Albaugh, Palin's previous appointment, withdrew her name from consideration amidst public outcry that no Alaska Natives or subsistence representatives would be serving on the Board of Game.
