Hunting Policy Makes Beautiful State Ugly

Letters to the Editor /Juneau Empire / December 19, 2003

I do not understand your policy of "hunting" wolves from the air or anything else from the air. That is not hunting. It is killing, no ifs ands or buts about it.

Alaska is known as the last great wild frontier. However, you should take a look at what happened in Uganda on the wild preserves during Edie Amin: 3,000 elephants were decimated to less than 500. You can't bring back the beauty of the wilderness and all its wildlife without great sacrifices and cost. The cost of bringing back the wildlife far outweighs the income from the hunters. Look at the long-term effects of your hunting policies.

Although Alaska is a beautiful state, hunting anything from the air is ugly and reflects on Alaska and its people.
