Daily News Made Good Call in Running Pictures of Animal Skinning

Letters to the Editor / Anchorage Daily News / February 26, 2004

I was pleased by the Daily News' choice to print several large color photos of bloody animal carcasses being skinned as part of a program at Russian Mission School ("Learning old ways," Feb. 15). The photos showed what the school was doing for students. These photos caught the readers' attention and drew them into the article.

The News needs to do more stories about the achievements of Alaska's schools. The photos were not glorifying killing or death but showing the beauty of the subsistence way of life. More photos need to be shown of how educators are reaching students in these changing times. People who were offended need to get real and remember which state they live in.
