Fish and Game Commissioner Withholds Full Picture
of Wolf Control
Letters to the Editor / Anchorage Daily News /March 28, 2004
response to "Learn the true facts of
wolf control" (March 20), Fish and Game Commissioner Kevin
Duffy accuses people of providing misinformation on wolf
control programs in the state. Yet Duffy is truly the guilty
party by not providing the public with the full picture.
Duffy claims that wolf control is only occurring in a small
area of Alaska, but he fails to reveal that the Board of
Game recently tripled the area for wolf control programs,
and it now equals more than 30,000 square miles of Alaska.
He also doesn't say that these control programs will last at least four years
and result in the deaths of hundreds of wolves. He indicates that the control
programs do not seek to "eliminate wolves," yet the McGrath program calls for
the complete extermination of every wolf in a 3,500-square-mile area.
What's really going on here?
