Letters to the Editor / Fairbanks Daily News-Miner
/ March 28, 2004
To the Editor,
A letter appeared in the March 15 edition from Gerald Nicholia
of Tanana in which he took an anti-wolf stance.
What is noteworthy is in the first paragraph alone he had
two significant errors. He referred to the "Wildlife Alliance" whereas the proper name of the group is
the "Alaska Wildlife Alliance." He then lumped this organization with out-of-state
groups when, in fact, it has always been solely Alaska-based, having begun in
the mid-'70s and being in existence longer than, for instance, the Alaska Outdoors
If Mr. Nicholia is concerned about Outsiders affecting his lifestyle, he might
want to consider the intrusion of such Outside groups as the National Rifle Association,
Safari International and the Foundation for North American Wild Sheep, all of
whom have weighed in (and well may again) via the AOC on Alaska wildlife issues.
Given these errors in just the opening of his letter, one must wonder with what
other inaccuracies was the remainder laden.
