Legislate Hunting

Letters to the Editor / Fairbanks Daily News-Miner / April 18, 2004

To the Editor:

I am saddened that some of us wasted our votes to send Ralph Seekins to Juneau to deal with "bear baiting." He must not have more important issues to deal with.

It is apparent that there are some--like special interest hunting groups--who support his efforts. As well, there are many who do not.

Since Mr. Seekins, along with some politicians and the Board of Game, feel bear baiting is such an important issue, let's put it to a vote. Start with a referendum this fall on bear baiting, another on aerial wolf hunting, one on trapping and one on shooting moose calves.

Do we need to legislate hunting? Apparently so.

May the majority win.

Tim Tilsworth / Fairbanks
